Nikon Z8 - Service Advisory

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Hi Anthony I’ve sent you a pm on this with a helpful contact at Nikon UK. Hope it helps
I was away and only learned about the recall last month when I was able to log in here.

The day before, I found my Z8 had separated from my 24-70 and was not easy to reattach. I blamed myself until I came here and discovered the recall.

It was easy to register for the recall, and I quickly received an acknowledgement from Nikon UK:

"your advisory request has been placed in a queue to ensure the remedial parts are available prior to the return of your product."

This was on 29 June.

Since then, nothing.

My initial respect for Nikon's response to the problem has turned into disappointment.

Back from Nikon UK after 9 days, with this interesting detail, settings unchanged, carefully packaged. Lens changing seems silky smooth.

In Cape Town, South Africa, The Nikon agents give me an appointment - I take the camera in to my Camera shop (the technician flies in for a couple of days) , repairs takes an hour - and off I go with my Z8
Well in theory. My appointment is tomorrow morning so will see how smoothly this goes down
Hi Elsa,
Please confirm progress - I'm in JHB ,and have a service advisory reference from Nikon - waiting for notification of when to bring in to the service centre.
They say that I can wait and will take about an hour.
Regards,
Gavin

Has anyone seen any indication that Nikon has also checked the (alleged) camera strap lug problem when they submitted their camera for the mount issue?
I asked about this when I sent mine in and they said there was no known problem as of 12th July but that it would be checked when serviced. I am not clear if it has indeed been checked.

There was a note on UHH from Nikon Rumors that said they were aware of the lug issue and would check them when doing the mount recall…no word on when this started. Now that I’m back from the UK I need to send mine in as well.

I'm waiting to send mine after UPS has their strike issues resolved. Perhaps by then Nikon will decide what to do about the lug issue. Mine doesn't appear to have any issues, yet. But I've not been using it much.

Gavin - everything went as advised. An hour and it was done.
Asked about the straps magafters - a recall / check is not on the cards for it at the moment.
