Nikon Z8 - Service Advisory

Well I'm not completely nuts [yet] but UPS tracking for my Z8 is finally working and showing no requirement for a signature.
This may explain the difference....my Z8 is being shipped from NIKON/CAMTECH SVCS.
It only has to travel ~500 miles but it'll take until Tuesday....

@Gov - late afternoon Monday (7-3) I recd an email from NY confirming mine. They were not closed, I'd assume. Not heard anything since
Called Nikon again yesterday. Got a different rep. He found my camera and said it was on its way back! (Seems most of what the first rep told me was wrong.) This second rep gave me a tracking number and the camera arrived this morning. I never got an email from Nikon with the service order number. There was an invoice in the box with a service number and other info. I guess one moral of my story is that if you suspect you didn't get the correct information from the first call to Nikon, try for another rep.

I just checked mine again. They created a shipment label July 6 (my birthday!), showing delivery July 11th. But UPS has not received the shipment item, which is ground 4 days shipping. LOL, crazy - I'm curious if it is a signature required delivery.

Did you include your email address information with the paperwork that you submitted when you sent your Z8 in for service? That would typically be the way that the Nikon Service center would communicate your Service Order number to you.

Yes. I included all the contact info Nikon asked for on the Z 8 Service Advisory Form (packing slip): serial number, name, email address, full physical address, and phone number and put the form in the box. I just checked a second copy of the form that I made for my records and all of the info is correct.

Yes, it should be. At least mine required that. It took about 2 weeks total, round trip. Back and all cleaned up now. I'm glad to have it back to play with it some more. I like it better than the Z9 right now but that could change over time of course. Remains to be seen.

curious where things ended up for folks wrt signature required? Thom's post suggests mine requiring signature was not typical.
My Z8 return shipment also indicated "Adult Signature Required - MIN 21". I had the package redirected to my local UPS Access Point (which I do for all of my UPS deliveries).

I signed for the package when I picked it up, and the UPS tracking history contains an entry that says: "Signature Obtained", along with a timestamp.

just sharing some timeline with Nikon Canada, I am living on the west coast and the service center is in Mississauga.
Jul 4th: dropped my camera with box to Purolator.
Jul 5th: Received/Acknowledged by Nikon Canada.
Jul 10th: shipped and expected delivery is 11th.
I am surprised that Nikon Canada use express shipping (air) for the RMA. The turn around time is AMAZING.

I think I’ve been keeping up with postings on this site and others and, so far, I have not read what seems to be authoritative or at least well informed info on what the problem is and how it is fixed. Almost everything is about shipping time or reports that ” I sent mine in”, as if anyone but you really cares about your one camera. (Sorry to be blunt).
Anybody know?

I don’t know that Nikon has been very forthcoming with what exactly needs to be adjusted or replaced…my Z8 is due back tomorrow, so it will be interesting to see if any information is given. Although repetitive, I find the posts regarding the recall to be informative RE how long it has taken for some to get delivered to Nikon, how long to get their camera back, etc. Commiserating about a common experience can help build community.

Mine arrived an hour ago and required a signature. I missed the UPS driver on Friday, I was in the shower. Had no idea it was on its way back home.
So moral of the story is to not shower? Seriously, that has happened to me before, even when I know they are coming they somehow manage to arrive the two minutes I'm not available during the day.

My Z8 is on the way home, signature not required. Given all the issues with delivery, I'll be watching for UPS from the time I arise tomorrow till my Z8 is in my hands. Hoping for the best.

Maybe these posts by @Lance B offer some insight into your question: Nikon Z8 - Service Advisory (Posts 390 & 392)
Thank you! Those posts, which I obviously missed, do make sense.
I think Nikon would be well advised to be more “up front” with loyal customers. But I give them credit for the mass recall rather than doing nothing and fixing only the cameras which obviously malfunction and get returned for service.
