Does anyone know when Nikon/B&H usually opens the pre-orders after the announcement? Just wondering if the pre-orders are usually the same-day/same-time as the announcement, or a few days or hours after. Trying to avoid the 5am west-coast wake up call if possible 😅

dunno, but i'm guessing you'd be better off using a local store rather than a big place like b&h to get the best chance of getting an early allocation. the line gets VERY long at b&h, much longer than their allocation it seems

For those in Canada: I was in Kerrisdale Cameras yesterday, picking up my new 500 pf lens, and they guy in there was saying they are refusing to take any pre-orders until they are given the go-ahead by head office.

They've had people asking if they can be put on the wait list, and one guy asking what time they open on the following morning.

Unless the store guy was a good actor, he had no idea what was coming, only the info in the rumors.

Same here - pre-orders commence following the Nikon announcement. My guess is they have been given a time when Nikon wants them to open the option.

My store will always put me on a list and place my order for first in line whenever the product is announced and they have an official order page ready to go.
I guess it depends on your relationship with the store and in my case I have a very good relationship with the store manager and have bought a lot of high end gear over the years.
Only issue is with Nikon gear I'm not able to get NPS status so I only get to go first in line for non-NPS.

I was in B&H yesterday, given the 'local to me' camera stores have closed B&H has become my 'local' store. They do not take any pre-pre orders as in before the announcement but they should open up online pre-orders soon after the announcement and I expect before their brick and mortar store opens at 10:00 so you might want to set that alarm.

Well, this one is a bit odd for me in that the announcement is centered around 8:00 am EST rather than whatever time in Japan equates to around 12:00 am here. From products I’ve been eager to watch, Nikon makes their announcement while I would normally be sound asleep, and around that time it shoots me an email, inviting me to check the new product out and place an order on the Nikon USA site. Other online retailers open online preorders around then as well.

My advice, if ordering online, would be to have two or three stores at the ready and start checking them an hour or 30 minutes before the announcement comes. I’ve seen preorders open up before the actual announcement was made. And I’ve also seen preorders open up at most retailers while my chosen retailer seemed to mix up am and pm in their website programming and thus open up 12 hours late. Haha

From what I have seen, B&H is usually one of the earliest to open, if that’s your go to store. I would have an account already made and open and with card info on file. Then keep checking back at intervals. At B&H, with their volume, fifteen minutes might be the difference between getting one in July or waiting until December or even later.

Yep, if you are going to gamble with B&H you better have multiple browsers open to the page, know how to refresh and also have the mobile app opened as it may show up on there before it does on the main site. Now maybe Nikon is on top of the supply this time around....one could only hope. But if it is anything like the last 10 Nikon releases if you don't get your B&H order in within the first minute you are going to be waiting a long time. At that point, better to get an order in direct with Nikon or a smaller local store that gets Nikon gear reliably.

The 85/1.2 opened up around 12 midnight at B&H. The buy now was unresponsive for a couple minutes.
A day later NPS opened up, I immediately submitted the request.
Got the 85 with 1st shipment.
