Any reason why RRS Collar only have one QD connector ? I thought that two will avoid unwanted rotation on big lense when you have them connected to a QD sling like Magpul.
What is your experience with one QD ?
I see Hejnar photo propose 2 QD for a given collar. any feedback on it ?
cheers

I’ve used one QD connector with the Nikon foot on this lens. I had no unwanted rotation problems while carrying it using a Black Rapid harness.

Maybe it's just me…but 300 bucks for a replacement collar on an 1900 buck lens seems overkill for the market the lens is aimed at and priced for. Sure…I would have preferred the standard Nikon telephoto lens collar and foot…but obviously the one they put on there is cheaper than doing it the more typical way…but I wouldn't think the difference in price would be more than about 50 bucks. I don't understand why they did it…but then did and I haven't used mine enough yet to decide whether the collar sucks and needs replacing.

I just put a 50 or 60 Hejnar plate on it for monopod/tripod use and haven't worried about it so far.

After purchasing my 180-600 I went looking for a new lens collar and foot. Found the RRS and said the search is over then I saw the $295.00 price tag. As much as I love RRS product quality I just couldn’t pull the plug. Instead I chose to use a Wimberley lens plate that I had, two screws attach it to the factory foot nice and secure and won’t turn.

My 180-600 replaced a 200-500 f5.6. The OEM collar/foot on the 200-500 was truly awful. Rotation was notchy and the process of getting the collar on and off was kludgey. For my uses the OEM collar on the 180-600 works fine. Rotation is smooth, it goes on and off like a normal lens collar. I know it's fashionable to hate on Nikon's lens collars, but I have a number of other uses I can put $300 toward. Nothing wrong with RRS. Their products are jewel-like in their precision. I just can't justify it here. I did, however, pull a 150mm RRS arca plate out of the parts box for the Nikon collar. I bought a 3/8" - 1/4" reducer for the foot and mounted the plate using two screws. That plate doesn't have a QD socket, but I put a PD anchor on each of the Nikon collar's strap lugs and use my PD slide.

The RRS product may be very well engineered but the cost is the big issue here. The 180-600 is a good value for the money relatively inexpensive lens. It is hard to make the case for a $US295 replacement.
In my experience, the existing lens collar seems to work more smoothly after a few months of use. In the field, I never find myself inconvenienced or distracted by it. I do have a Kirk arca Swiss plate which I already owned on it.

When I first purchased my 180-600mm I was then immediately going to purchase the RRS collar based on past experience with other Nikon collars. I called and spoke to them and they recommended that I hold off to see if there was any problems with the Nikon collar. Well, there hasn't been any on my end. However, I haven't had my ear close to the ground so to speak looking for other's problems with the collar. Can anyone tell me know problems with the collar? I am would probably be regarded as a light user at this point.
Nothing in terms of shooting, but I find it's much too short/shallow to be comfortable and secure whilst carrying via the collar on a shoot

I have a Hejnar foot on my Z600 f/4 TC and it has only one QD connection hole. The non QD connection is further forward and if used does not balance well with the lens on my Z9 or my Z6III with the battery pack on it. So for the first time I got a mag pull connector and put it on my Holdfast single leather cross body strap with the optional universal slider installed. I have a holdfast safety teather connected to the lens strap lugs just in case since this is the first QD mag pull set up I have used. So far it seems very solid.

I rest the tripod foot in the palm of my hand, target rifle style, and the stock lens foot is far too short. I went with the Kirk over the RRS because of the extra length and the design without the extra quick release feature and extra knob to keep tight, like the oem foot that I wanted to stay away from.

Yes. The original collar is fine. I opted for Kirk replacement foot for my old 500 prime and that is still in use. But for my 180-600 which I have used for about 9 months now I just cannot see any reason to replace it yet. It has never ever been a distraction or inconvenient in any way at all. I am quite happy with it. I have other things I want to buy. A replacement collar for the 180-600, if it were to go on my list, would come in at number 752, just after the smart light bulbs that come with an app 😵‍💫 so you can change the colour.
