Bar-tailed Godwits : Moreton Bay, Queensland…
Bar-tailed Godwit : Limosa lapponica
Moreton Bay, Queensland
In the first photo the barred tail from which this godwit receives its name is obvious. The birds rose into a moderate onshore wind — between 40 and 50 km/h — before settling in...
Hi everyone,
About a week ago I bought a Sony RX10 IV (after shooting with the original RX10 for nearly 7 years). I was pretty satisfied with my previous camera, but the 200 mm equivalent lens was very limiting for wildlife. 600 mm equivalent focal length is definitely much better (3x better...
Just clearing my throat …
Grey Butcherbird : Cracticus torquatus
Queensland, Australia
Although Grey Butcherbirds are renowned for their boisterous singing, this young bird was simply clearing its throat (crop?), an understandable activity for a species with an insatiable appetite for skinks...

White-faced Heron : Egretta novaehollandiae
Kedron Brook Wetlands, Brisbane, QLD, AU
Camera–Subject : 14 m
I've read that "small aquatic animals" are this heron's preferred prey: if you move, you're a snack! And, if you don't move, there's a set of long toes waiting to...
This, plus many more Great Tits were at a local nature reserve in Barling, Essex (UK).

Looking NNE to Alaska…
Reef Point, Moreton Bay
South Pacific, Australia
I walked the tidal flats and spied not a single shorebird.
'Tis the season to be off to faraway places.
Safe journeying to all of the little fellas on their long, long migration across the Pacific.
It is well known that cormorants love fish. Above all, they take all the time necessary for the prey to be well oriented before swallowing it. Seen from the outside it looks like a game. Not sure the fish think the same... The red color in the beak is the fish’s blood.
