Nah, I wouldn't try to stuff an ICU in the MS36L rather, I was looking to modify a travel backpack with an ICU as an alternative to the MS36L.

Ah sorry, I must've misread and connected two thoughts of yours (MS36L, and ICU) together that didn't belong lol.

The Nya Evo XL will certainly do it. I don't have any experience with the Fstop stuff yet.

None of the Shimoda or Peak design ICU's are large enough

Nya-Evo 60-C + large RCI, with Z8/600 PF, hood, Sony RX100VA, assorted MF lenses, batteries, hub, SSD. (More items in the top compartment.) I haven’t expanded the pack from 44L to the full 60L capacity.

Received word that MrJan Gear will (re)launch the Boris M, a backpack similar to the current Boris IV but M stands for Molle.
The M will be more of a "naked" backpack, ideal for plane trips and yet modular due to the Molle system. This launch will come with an introduction price, will keep you all up to date.

if you're in touch with the big man - suggest the bags come with more weather resistant outsides lol

I find the Boris IV already pretty compact and naked. I'm interested to see what the M looks like

From time to time I am indeed in contact with him. I am from Belgium, a small dot on the globe but makers of MrJan Gear and NYA-EVO backpacks :) (one living in Slovakia and the other in Sweden but both from the Flanders region).

Maybe not the correct thread to ask this in but thought I'd throw it out there....

1) What is the cost of the NYA-EVO XL ICU.....I can't see the price as it is sold out
2) Has there been any word when the XL ICU is going to be back in stock?
3) Has anyone tried an NYA-EVO XL ICU in an F-stop ANJA bag?

My main bag I use is the F-stop Anja with F-stop XL ICU. I do like the NYA-EVO feature of being to pull out from the top flap. I would consider adding the NYA-EVO XL to my AJNA. Looking at external measurements it appears the NYA-EVO would fit even though it is slightly bigger in all dimensions. Width and depth are under 1cm difference. Height is more but that should be okay as it will just fill in more of the area under the top flap of the Ajna.

I also have a number of GuraGear bags that I've used in the past but I always trend back to the Ajna.

all backpack talk of any kind is accepted in this thread!

1) I cannot tell either. I emailed them and asked for the pricing and they ignored my question (granted I asked lots of other questions - so they may have missed it). based on their other pricing:

xs - $69
s - $79
m - $99
l - $119
xl - $139? $149?

2) Nya replied to me and said I could expect stock of the XL to return in June 2024

3) I have not. I've never owned anything F-Stop related (yet).

Yeah that $179 is a bit steep. For comparison the similar sized f-stop XL is $129.
Given that price, even if the NYA-EVO fit well into my Ajna I don't think gaining the top loading feature would be worth it.
Probably better to cut the top off my F-stop ICU instead 😁

$175 for an ICU? May as well buy an integrated bag.

yeah those Nya Evo are definitely some of the most expensive bag/ICU's out there. hopefully the quality justifies the price.

I'll probably bite and try one out anyways. I really want to like the design, material, top loading, etc. Seems like a meaningful upgrade from the Boris IV - except that it can't hold as much. however I should just stop taking my 400TC + 800PF places anyways. either one lens or the other.

I am leaving Monday on safari but will get my hands on the Boris M backpack when I get back so somewhere next month will I be able to post some photos of the backpack.
It is not yet on the website of MrJan Gear but should be very soon.

I have the Boris M in the house :). I am travelling tomorrow for a week with a smaller backpack. The backpack is not yet on the website and I do not know the price but got it anyway (long story :p ). Will give details when back.
Spoiler alert: you can easily remove the top handle, leave it off or hook it to the side. You can also remove the carrying shoulder straps, ... hence the fact you can make it a "naked" backpack. As the M stand for Molle are the sides, top and front of the backpack the slots for extra bags/pouches/straps, ....

I just spent $640 on a Nya Evo 60L + XL ICU... crazy stupid amounts of money, but it really does seem to be the best bag for traveling on airlines with a big lens.

The Boris IV is okay (and much cheaper), but it's oversized for some flights, no ICU, and the outer material isn't as weather resistant.

My main two bags will be Shimoda 35L v2 with Peak Design Large ICU (v1) and the Nya Evo 60L + XL ICU. I looked at the Nya Evo 36L so I could have matching bags, but it has significantly less internal space than the Shimoda. and is significantly more expensive.

will post updates when stuff arrives

I splurged on the XL ICU this morning as well when it finally showed back in stock. I don't even have the 60L. I ordered the 50C on the Kickstarter and the XL will fit in it. I just won't be able to use the top access, but I am fine with that because someday I will get the 60L. For me, the NYA line seems the best and with the range of ICU sizes I can use the one bag in a ton of different configurations.

the 60L will probably enter into my gear at some point, but for my needs now, the 50C is just the right size and can be expanded to almost a 60L. We'll see how this plays out in June when my bag comes.

Good luck with yours, I think with the offerings out there.. it was a great choice.

I bought the Nya Evo 60L last month with the large ICU and couldn’t be happier. (At least from a camera bag…) I’ve traveled with it locally, as well as by car to Toronto and by 737 to Roatan, Honduras (as a carry-on). I haven’t had to expand it so far to full capacity, though can see myself doing this on a longer adventure when I’d also want to shove some clothes, binocs, toiletries, etc. inside. There are plenty of spaces inside that I have yet to explore. I give it a (believable) 9.5 at this point… a serious upgrade from my ProTactic 350.

and for what it's worth, here's a chart I made with some of these bags and the 3 airlines I fly

if anyone has other airlines or bags they want added, lemme know. happy to turn this into a fleshed out pet project

note: these are just EXACT dimensions as listed by the manufacturers. as is the nature of bags, you could probably "squish" many of these to fit onto these airlines if needed. and some of the dimensions only exceed airline specified dimensions by like 0.2". also, I need to add a category for "fits with just ICU - no outside" because I think that would make the difference and add value to bags like the Nya Evo, over say the Mindshift 36L or Boris IV.

@nmerc_photos you can add both Nya Evo bags (‘Yes’) to a United column… at least as down to their Embraers; haven’t been on a CRJ lately.

22 x 14 x 9, same as Delta’s.

Update: I’m seeing some of United’s aircraft reconfiguring their overhead bins so that the bags are inserted on their sides, wheel’s first. Depth of the bag won’t be so critical in these bins.

My Boris IV fits in the overhead from the Lufthansa B747, Lufthansa Airbus 320/330/340/350.
Did fly AirCanada last January with an Airbus 330-300 and also no issue to fit the MrJanGear Boris.
Last month did I take the NYA-EVO 60L with Lufthansa on the Airbus 319 and 320 Neo and B747-8 equally without issue.
