Z9 Firmware 4.0 Available

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I just installed the noew firmware on my Z9. It took about 5-6 minutes. Make sure you also download any of the manuals for the Z9 that mat have changed as a result of this new firmware: firmware guide; Reference Guide, Custom settings Guide, Auto Capture guide.

I am trying to figure out when and how I could use Auto Capture: Raptors flying to and landing on a fixed perch?

There's a couple of posts above covering aspects of all this, an official Nikon promotion video for wildlife

Updated without any issues. I chose reset and reentered settings manually to be sure I knew what I had. No comment on video since I rarely shoot video. I do not see major difference in most auto focus setting. 3D does seem to track a little more smoothly than previously. I'll have a better feeling for the changes after I shoot some BIF. Backyard squirrels aren't really much of a tracking challenge.

LOL! That's the one I chose....but there didn't seem to be much difference in them. I prefer Silent mode, but the tour leader on my next trip wants to know when folks are shooting......
Any particular reason why that's the case? Seems a little odd to me, but I guess it depends on circumstances and what exactly you're shooting

We will be shooting wildlife from a Zodiac. He wants to make sure, as much as possible, that the boat doesn't change position when folks are shooting. And if folks are shooting, that others are not moving around causing the boat to move. And if no one is shooting, determine if it is because people are done, don't have a good vantage point, etc.

ah, that makes more sense. Being in a boat, you'd want everything to be controlled and locked down because...well...it's a boat. going overboard would be bad

Word of caution to Megadap ETZ owners: The 4.0 firmware update is incompatible with the Megadap ETZ21 adapter. Hopefully Megadap will respond quickly with an update.
i got the impression from someone on fb that they are testing a fix

UPDATE: it's been reported that the most recent metadapt fw does work so it seems like you may just need to be up to date

Tested video Auto Capture at my backyard feeder and bubbler -- works like a champ. The AF was set to 3D Autofocus using subject detection. It didn't always pick up the bird but when it did tracking was sticky even in low evening light/overcast conditions. Colour me impressed.
Did you test the Lo1 on Nlog?

We who use the Megadap adapter with the Sony 200-600mm knew this day would come. What this means for me is that I will hold off on the upgrade to 4.0 for now, and will wait and see what Megadap can and will do here. I suspect they will update the adapter fairly quickly. Frankly, none of the features of 4.0 bowl me over as "something I really needed," so waiting a bit will not involve suffering. Meanwhile, it sure would be a good thing if Nikon came out with its own 200-600---soon, maybe?

@GrandNagus50 Have you updated the firmware on it. Reports are that is what is needed.

As @BarkingBeansCoffee notes, the most recent reports are that the most recent version of fw on the web site works with 4.0
