Nikon Z8 - Service Advisory

Mine is affected. So I tried to fill in the info using my tablet but it won't let me enter my zipcode or phone number (which are required) because they have the space filled with #. I'll have to try on my desktop later. What a screw-up.

LOL - you're pretty suspicious. Not sure why they would do that.

I have not had any issues but mine was in the first shipment and is on the list. My serial number is in the first 2000 units. The process is very simple. I packaged my camera as directed and left it with UPS today. I also used an NPS Priority label in case that helps.

I did back up my camera settings before sending it for service.
Did the same

Thanks for the detailed answers. I've tried all of my lenses without a problem, so hopefully that remains true until I get back.
I have only tried a few lens on my Z 8 (original batch). No problem. I suspect that they got a defective part they need to swap out

Mine was on the recall list as well. I managed to not be affected by the earlier Z9 recall, but was not so lucky this time around. 😥

I did call Nikon to ask about the turnaround time, and got the same 7-10 business days response that was reported earlier. So I went ahead and boxed up my Z8 and shipped it out this morning,

I have a trip coming up the 3rd week of July, so I'm hoping to have it back in hand by then.

I'm still waiting on my Z8 to arrive . . . one of these days. I'm curious if this will impact the next shipment(s) arrival date. I'm also curious if they've caught it quickly enough to make changes at the factory prior to the next round of shipments.

it worked fine with some lenses but my 24-70 2.8 and my 85/1.8 would not lock completely.
This is "interesting" as to what the exact problem might be.

My 24-70 f2.8 S and 85mm f1.8 S each fully lock - different to your experience.

All my Z mount lenses, my 2 Z converters, 2 FTZ and FTZ II all fully lock.

This indicates I am OK "for now".
I ceased to be NPS when I retired as a Pro - a UK NPS requirement - implying no special priority for me.

So far nobody (including me) has said their Z8 body does not come within the serial number range

If the entire perhaps perhaps first 6-7 weeks production needs a recall ("we" do not know) Nikon has a large number of bodies to adjust.

My most convenient send in period is December.

I'm in the same boat - all lenses are attaching firmly with the familiar click. For now, I'm waiting to send it in (until the new wears off). I'll just be more mindful when changing lenses in the meantime.

Does everyone pack it up in the original box minus the accessories when they send it in? I got mine as a kit with the 24-120 lens so the box is a bit bigger. What's the best way to pack it up? I've never, in my 14 years using Nikon have ever had to send anything in for repair. All my lenses so far click on and lock. I hear so many people saying that winter is their best time to send it in, winter can be my busiest time since the eagles flock to open water to fish when everything freezes over here in western PA. Some of my best photos have been eagles on the ice. (They'll dig out frozen fish that get caught in the ice, it's something to watch.) Anyhow, I have a Z9 and I can drag out my D850 if I need to, I suppose. I just want to make sure I pack it up well so no one can say it was damaged in shipment because it wasn't packed well. Wish I could just take it to a local camera shop to get it fixed, even though so far, nothing appears to be broken on mine, but you just don't want to risk one of those pricey lenses falling off.

The instructions say to not send it in the original box.

Edit: Here are the shipping instructions:
Package your product in a plastic bag and pack it in a sturdy box, not the original box.

So, how do I send it? I never saw any instructions since I couldn't get past the zipcode and phone number on their info page. Will UPS pack it up, or will I have to pay for that?
Nikon provides the shipping label and the shipping is free (to and from the service center). You have to box it up yourself, or I guess you can pay UPS to do it, if you take it to a UPS Shipping Center.

The process is very straight forward. Just submit your serial number. If the service advisory is applicable, it will generate the forms, provide instructions, and help you print the shipping label and the information to go inside the box. You should pack it yourself and attach the shipping label.

You should remove all accessories - any third party straps, memory cards, plates or eyepieces as well as the battery. It should be wrapped in bubble wrap or the like and shipped in a regular box - Nikon does not intend to keep up with shipping materials. Nikon provides prepaid shipping and provides tracking. In my case they used UPS, but other methods will be used in other places.

So, I have to buy a box that will fit it. I don't have boxes laying around. Thoroughly disgusted. *I* didn't make a faulty camera, but I have to go through this grief of sending it in.
This is a service advisory. Most people will not have a problem and this is to pre-emptively correct a potential issue. If you have not experienced a problem, you can wait and send it at your convenience - or don't send it at all.

I'm glad they are providing this fix at no charge. It's a minor effort to pack and ship, and will prevent a future issue. It would have been easy to ignore the issue and simply repair items if the issue turns up.

Yes. Sad thing is I can't get past the forms online because they put #### in the zipcode and phone number spots and I can't delete them using my tablet. I'll try again later on my desktop. If I can't even submit the forms because of their faulty webpage, then I'll skip it. Not happy with Nikon.

@Patty15 I also had a problem with the zip code field. When I first tried to submit my info, it showed ##### in the Zip code field, even though I had already entered my info there. The fix was to just type over the hash signs (#'s) with my zip code (again) and this time it went through when I hit submit. So I was able to replace the ##### with my zip code info.

Also good to point out, save your setting on one of your cards and set that card away in nice safe place you don't accidentally use it.

You will need access to a printer anyway. The form simply prefills all the data to be printed and enclosed.

I had to type both the Zip and Phone number rather than use autofill.

I tried typing over, nope it typed next to then when I went to the next field, it went blank. I tried deleting and backspacing to get rid of them, no joy. We'll see what happens with my desktop. Since I'm not having any issues with my lenses, I'm in no big hurry. But, I did find a box that might work, I'll just have to stuff something in the ends because it's a bit longer than the camera. You know, back in the day when I was shipping and receiving stuff regularly, I had all kinds of small boxes and bubblewrap, but when my closet overflowed and I quit that stuff, my husband and I got rid of it. Now I'm scrambling around trying to find stuff. Since it's Nikon's fault and not mine, they should pay for UPS to pack it up. Heck, Amazon does that if I ordered something that didn't fit, I didn't want, etc. I paid $4,000 for this camera and now it's up to me to make sure it's right after their mistake.
