Nikon Z8 - Service Advisory

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

But, I have to pay to pack it up safely in a box to send back to them. I've heard one person say it cost them $36+ to get UPS to pack it up. Ok, $36 is not a lot of money, but I'm in the process of paying $4,000 for this camera so I can pay another $36 to get their manufacturing issue fixed. I think it shouldn't cost anyone anything. I fear that if I pack it up and something happens shipping it back and it gets damaged, I'll be out $4,000.
I asked the UPS clerk about insuring the delivery to Nikon Service and I was told since the delivery was prepaid by Nikon it’s insured. I look at it this way… yes it’s a PITA to send it in for the repair but since 2006 the Z8 is the eighth Nikon I have owned and the first to be sent in for a repair. I’d rather get it fixed now then have a $6,500 800 PF fall off.

I received an email within 20 minutes of shipping, stating they will get it back quick and keep me informed. As mentioned earlier, I had no concerns, exchanged lenses many times, but they want it back and I got it done quick.

Good info to hear. I didn't get email except they were notified of shipment. Glad I got mine out this morning now if true. I tried to use D850 today, felt weird already!!!! Never noticed how thick it felt. No lens issues either, using FTZ though

Reading the thread…I’m wondering if this isn’t more widespread than the Z9 advisory. I received my Z8 in the second shipment..picked it up just four days ago…and it was part of the recall. Many of you are reportino that you were part of the first shipments and were affected. I’d love to know the actual numbers/percentages.

Mine is listed too, but so far no issues, and I am really hesitant to ship my perfectly working Z8 with all the associated risks. My plan is to wait until the issue appears (let´s see when I get the 200-600 for example) and then act...

Does anyone have a Z8 that isn't showing it is on the recall list? I think Nikon must be recalling the entire first shipment from the launch day/week.

I think I've only read one report of someone actually having the issue with some lenses (some of the time) where they aren't clicking into place. If yours are locking with a good click as expected then I'd wait till a slower time of year to send it in and also for Nikon to have enough parts to deal with the onslaught. Sending now while everyone panics and sends theirs in may have your camera sitting on a shelf for weeks waiting on the new mount while you miss shooting with it.

I wonder if this has anything to do with why my friends' Z8 that was supposed to arrive in the 2nd shipment of Z8s a week or more ago keeps getting delayed in arriving to the LCS?

I sent mine in yesterday and it had no issues, but I think you are correct about waiting if you don't have an issue. We shall see but I'm fearing a long wait time...there must be 1000's of cams being recalled and I envision a huge pile of Z8's being delivered for repair early next week,. I hope the fix doesn't take too long to do and the repairs centers have enough qualified help to speed things along. 🤞

I've mentioned it a couple times, all are being recalled.
May be fine to ignore, the notice reads: Nikon will repair affected Z 8 cameras at no cost to the customer, including the cost of shipping affected Z 8 cameras to Nikon, as well as their return to customers, "even if the warranty has expired"

I've decided I will too. I'll just make sure my lenses are locked all the time.
This is what I decided to do, too. I noticed an issued with the Megadap adapter earlier this week and thought it was the adapter itself. Returned it and checked all my other lenses and they’re ok. I worry the wait time now will be all summer long…

Sad to see mostly the flag ship Z8 Z9 seems to be getting the issues and not the entry level cheapies............regardless, at this level its still disappointing.

In my experience Nikon has always been good to deal with issues and service.

Only an opinion

Thanks for the update. Fortunately I can drive to Nikon's Melville service center and drop off the Z8. I'll pick it up when ready. Looking to do this with a friend who is checking their's as well..odds are will need the service as we purchased from the same location within two days.

May I enquire why you are NOT following Nikon's instructions - which in most places is to register your camera on the issue service booking site, receive a shipping label AND wait to be called when they have the parts and are ready for your camera?

Have Nikon USA asked you to do this?

A number of folk in the USA who had the lens button issue with their Z9 tried the same route as you and simply suffered more pain and cost than they needed to.

I contacted Nikon USA and was told it could take up to two weeks for Nikon to make the repair. I’m not having issues with my camera and all of my Z lenses lock on tight. I plan to send my Z8 in after the July 4th holiday to get it taken care of. This is disappointing, but I’m glad Nikon is getting it taken care of. I love my Z8 and hate to part with it. I still have a Z7ii that I’ll use when I send the Z8 in.

At this point we don't know how long (other than the estimate that Nikon USA is giving of 7-10 days), I'm sure Nikon is aware of the negative press this is getting and if it starts taking them longer than 2 weeks to get cameras back to people who just spent a lot of hard earned money to get it, there will be an even greater outcry. Because of this I think Nikon will be very quick to turn around the repairs. Yes it's unfortunate, yes it's kind of a pain but the process was really easy to submit and get a shipping label and Nikon is taking care of it both ways - I do not know how they could have made this easier given the situation.

Hi All,

Mine is also in the list. Serial number is 600xxxx.
However I cannot find the service advisory other than in UK and USA nikon web portals. I cannot find it in Nikon europe, Nikon germany or nikon Portugal...
Anyone in eurpoe that can post here the link? Thx in advance

someone may have answered this but you enter your serial number it tells you "you are affected' then asks for info and says print label, wrap ship. I believe UK running different than Nikon USA. There is no 'wait to hear' message on the Nikon USA site if that was is what you inquired about.
