Sony A1-2

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

That is for damn sure lol. I won’t make that mistake again. I hope they will use the articulating screen on the A1-2 because it’s very handy at times.
I’m sure it will. I’d expect the body to match the a9III which is wonderful. It’s the most comfortable camera I’ve ever used and the flip screen is a very nice feature to have.

So if they do go to a new generation of type a cards, will the current ones still work? I’d hate to have to buy them again

as a total outsider I suspect that they will work but might "cripple" or reduce the speed of the camera.

Sort of like, damned if you do (buy new ones, $) or dammed if you don't (keep old ones, slower speed)

Yeah, you’re probably right but I think I would at least try to sell the ones I have if I do decide to get one. My A7RV still uses them but the A6700 uses standard Sd cards. If I do decide to sell my current A1, then I will probably include a couple or perhaps three cards with it for a good price. I don’t foresee buying one, but I’m not going to say never. I have been tempted to buy things in the past that I never thought I would buy lol

That’s what I did. I got rid of all my prograde 160g cards which are too small for how I shoot. Add in pre capture and space is your friend. I run all 1TB cards now so I’ve never run out of space and only one time have I seen the files left drop below 9999.

I’ve honestly not seen any of the other cards yet but I assume they’re available somewhere

I can not wait for tomorrow morning! Traveling for work and in Indy. Moved my morning around so I didn’t have to go all day not knowing the details lol. Flew in today and stopped by Robert’s Camera and it appears there is a solid buzz for the camera.
Agree - I'm looking forward to seeing what the new a1 brings to the table. I'll be watching at 9:00 :)

Hopefully they’ll do it more common sense pricing strategy with his release and not try to increase the price 20%. I think that’s going to make or break the sales or at least that’s my opinion.

I think I’m more curious to see what the video specs are going to be and if they finally implement 8K 60 like the Z9 has had for several years now

Speaking of faster CF express cards and speed increase...with all due honesty... I'm really hoping that the rumors are not 100% right, and Sony will manage to provide an increase in the fps even if it's at the expense of doing it at a lower resolution (or even if it's just in crop mode).
It's hard for me to justify/understand why Sony could not do it (technically speaking), other than deliberately avoiding the cannibalization of A9III sales, given the small price difference to the A1.

Yeah...I have little hope but would love to see that it is actually 30FPS in all RAW formats now (A1 only in lossy) and then 40 or 60FPS in lossy compressed. Fine for me as I've used lossy compressed in every Sony camera just to get max FPS.

Yes, that would already be a sound improvement.

I haven't seen any hard evidence that the current sensor doesn't allow for a higher frame rate given its readout time (roughly 5ms), and given the 4 year time frame (since A1 release), processing/computing capacity should already have evolved enough to allow for higher frame rates as well.

We see new processors being released every single year on other digital gadgets (mobile phones, laptops...) and they have significantly improved the processing capacity of those (a good example is Apple and their initial M1 compared to the latest M4 processors... the leap in performance was huge in approx. 4 years time span).
If camera vendors are not getting the same performance improvement on their existing processors/platforms, maybe it's time for them to change the platform itself.

FWIW, OM Systems restricts f/s based on the ability of the lens to autofocus. Non-Pro lenses are limited to 25 f/s in AF mode while Pro lenses can go to 50 f/s.

It does make a difference. Often @ 25 f/s I have a shot of the bird on the perch and the subsequent shot the bird isn't in the frame.

Yes, for fast/flying subjects, shooting at 25 and 50fps does make a difference (namely when they are taking off). I understand your point. about potential restrictions deriving from the lenses AF, but with Sony, that should not be an issue since, as far as I know, the majority of Sony Pro (GM) lenses support the 120fps of the A9III.

I might be wrong here but, I believe that the Sony GM lenses (ex: 600f4 and 300 f2.8) support 120fps with continuous AF plus tracking (including bird eye for instance).
That is correct. All of the newer GM lenses support the 120fps with af on the a9III. The 70-200f2.8 GMII, 100-400GM, 200-600G, 300,400,600GM. Most of the shorter lenses do as well if GM and or the MK2 versions.
