Nikon Z8 - Service Advisory

What did they do? Did your cam need a repair?
I am not NPS. I think I was lucky that I acted quickly and UPS was able to get the camera to Nikon first thing Monday morning. I only live 70 miles away from the repair center.

The repair order was quite vague and said that they just returned it to proper specifications. So I’m not sure if they actually did anything to it other than test it.

The instructions I had said not to send it in the original box. They said to securely pack it in a sturdy box for shipping. And to not include cards or battery.

I just checked Nikons site and it shows my camera as shipped but no tracking number yet. Hopefully I will get one by the end of the day (Friday)
Friday - Shipped to Nikon
Monday - Arrived at Nikon (NY) as per UPS
Tuesday - Email from Nikon saying they have the camera
Wednesday - In Shop
Thursday - In Shop
Friday - Shipped

Monday - Shipped to Nikon
Wednesday - Arrived at Nikon NY and signed for at 12:30pm
Thursday - not a peep
Friday - not a peep so far at 11:15

i didn't pay close attention, but mine got checked in same day it was received, spent about a day in "shop", and now is in status "shipped". no tracking# yet, guessing it's queued for pickup, but basically they had it for aprox 3 days, ie, was checked the day received, one day in shop, then a day to get it to ups.

i did not get any emails beyond the original acknowledgement

Which service center is that?

I can't check it there because they haven't emailed me yet. I'm assuming it will get checked in today or Monday.
ah, i see. either they haven't checked it in yet or the email didn't go out correctly or it went to your spam or something.

you might search for it, the title and sender are as such:

Mine was shipped to NY on 6/23. UPS delivered it on Tues. 6/27. I just got an email today 6/30 that it was received with a link to the status page. Big sigh of relief. All you guys were saying you had gotten confirmation so fast I was Beginning to worry my was lost.

The link above that John posted is the one I received from Nikon. Once you connect it will ask for an email address so they can contact you. Then it will show the current status.

Yah, looks like the issue is what @Geoff_G said:
There is Nikon service center in CA and another in NY.
It is taking until the next day - at least - for cameras to get logged into Nikon's system in NY.
guess NY is more backed up than CA

I think you got a raw deal compared to me. Mine was also delivered on 6/27 but I got the email before noon on 6/28.
I can only presume there were a pile of cams delivered on Tuesday (and likely all week.

If your cam is going to NY it might be best to wait for the rush to subside if your cam has no issues with your existing glass.

This is my first time dealing w/ Nikon service, so am curious about something: do you have to approve the warranty/good-will repair before they'll actually do the work? I.e, if you sent your Z8 in, and didn't acknowledge the repair, will it just sit there, or will Nikon just go ahead and make the fix and send it back to you, without you having to do anything?

I finally got that acknowledgement email from them yesterday (camera got delivered on Tuesday), and I guess it's now in the queue for repair... here's hoping a ton of people didn't approve the repair before me, their cameras are just sitting there, while mine is getting done 🤡

You only have to approve the repair if they are charging you.
In this case there is no need to approve it. :)

I've had to approve Nikon repairs in the past before the work would start, but those were ones where I had to pay for the service. My Z8 repair was a no cost service, and the repair work began without me having to approve the estimate.
