Nikon Z8

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

In the end of the video from Ricci linked above (post 96) he makes an interesting observation. The teaser has the line Are You Ready? repeated on top of itself in a descending fashion. If you look closely the very last line has the ending question mark replaced with the numeral 8.
There is also the play button in the "you".
Will it be a new Video8 camera?

They may ADD a Z8 as a second or third body, but I doubt they will SWITCH in the sense of getting rid of their Z9. A lot of users like the feel of a gripped body and they will not replace it with a non-gripped body, regardless of specs.

People have different priorities for their cash, and some of us are willing to spend larger amounts of money on a smaller change than others would.

I'd care much more about the extra 0.6lbs on my Z9 if I were lugging a heavier lens around, and if I were at my personal weight limit for handholding I'd be very motivated to get below that limit!

Tony Northrop has a bunch of specs (?) in his latest discussion of the rumors. The EVF, according to his information, is only 3.7M. That what others are seeing. Doesn't sound very leading edge. Having looked through the A1 view finder, it's now my new base minimum :_)

Anyone else seeing any EVF specs?

Gary

I assume the USA price will not be a straight conversion of this Euro price to US dollars, but rather a specific USA price. Maybe the same $4,599 or a bit more (up to possibly $4,899).

However the camera is not for me because I am more interested in mammals than birds, but the only animals listed under use scenarios are birds. ;) I guess if you try to photograph a coyote the camera will lock up. :p Obviously I am joking, but seriously why wouldn't they put wildlife instead of birding?

Birdwatching and bird photography are taken seriously in many European countries: major growing market in imaging and optics; possibly, a naive advertising copy writer compiled the webpage.... all wildlife = Birds..

. Rather similar to the frequent bias in forums that wildlife photography=BIF

No $4,200 plus sales tax (assuming $1.10=Euro 1.00) and no difference in import duties. The rest is regional pricing differences and "as normal" Nikon prices in the USA are lower before taxes than almost every other country - including Canada and Australia where prices seem high.

While I'd love to pre-order this camera, I just can't do it...

I'm helping my daughter move into her first home, and its costing me an arm and a leg. Between Lowes and Home Depot, I've spent over $1k in the last week to help her with it. I see the costs getting much higher, with my wife's insistance. The little things we said could wait are now becoming urgent "to just get them done before she moves in." o_O

So, for the initial release and a bit later, I'll live vicariously through those of you here who delve into "the Z8 waters."
But if you go ahead and pre order the camera you can tell your wife that it was an investment in order to document the move and improvements to your daughter’s house….a picture is worth a thousand words!

For stills it is essentially a grip less Z9! I have a hunch the video features may not be the same, particularly the 8k60/4K 120.

if true, i'm very conflicted. i DO want to replace my backup camera which is a z6ii and this should work for that. i do want a common interface with the z9 and i do want something that can handle action similar to the z9. that said, i really would prefer it had a 24.5MP (or similar) stacked sensor. i wonder if they'll come out with a z6iii at some point, or if everything will be 45MP or greater at this point.
