No I am talking about the rumored 3.0 firmware for the current gen 1 A1. There were rumors regarding another update this fall. I think it was from alpha rumors. It’s an all new camera. Oh I get it. That may happen but that wouldn’t be the same firmware an a1MK2 is running. I’d just like to get a autofocus fix for what has transpired from the past updates. I fully realize they’re not going to add any features but they can at least fix the issues they created.Oh I get it. That may happen but that wouldn’t be the same firmware an a1MK2 is running. I hate to burst your bubble but the only firmware updates the current a1 is going to get at this point is bug fixes. There will be zero new features.
That I suspect will happen but I’d worry it still doesn’t fix issues. From my experience the a9III updates have been great but I won’t do my a1’s anymore until it’s well proven the update is stable and makes improvements.I’d just like to get a autofocus fix for what has transpired from the past updates. All the updates I’ve did on the 6700 and A7RV have went fine. Not sure why they can’t get the A1 right. It’s just odd that it doesn’t affect all of them as well. That I suspect will happen but I’d worry it still doesn’t fix issues. And it being their co flagship it’s a bit crazy the resources to get it right either haven’t been utilized or continue to fail. All the updates I’ve did on the 6700 and A7RV have went fine. Not sure why they can’t get the A1 right. It’s just odd that it doesn’t affect all of them as well.
Yeah definitely a bummerAnd it being their co flagship it’s a bit crazy the recourses to get it right either haven’t been utilized or continue to fail.
They need to fix this, my A1 is all over the place when tracking Kestrels in flight, use to get almost perfect sequences with my old firmware version now it's all over the map for me, really disappointed with Sony but also myself for updating the firmware.I’d just like to get a autofocus fix for what has transpired from the past updates. I feel exactly the same and this is one of the primary reasons I won't be getting a second generation. It speaks volumes to me whenever a company just doesn't seem to care whenever they create a problem. Not to mention, this is their flagship camera! At one point I owned two of these and ended up selling one to get the A7RV because of focus bracketing. They need to fix this, my A1 is all over the place when tracking Kestrels in flight, use to get almost perfect sequences with my old firmware version now it's all over the map for me, really disappointed with Sony but also myself for updating the firmware.
Out of curiosity what version of firmware are you running?I feel exactly the same and this is one of the primary reasons I won't be getting a second generation. 2.01 the latestOut of curiosity what version of firmware are you running?
2.02 is the latest.2.01 the latest
That’s what I meant to say2.02 is the latest.
Not unlikely, but also not going to be as big of an update as the number suggests. Many cameras got a major numbered update which was essential for the new phone apps and other improvements seems to be under the section "also ran". The A1I 3.0 update may be something similar, even though the 2.0 already had the new phone API. Won't have pre-capture.Do you think there’s any chance at all of the rumored 3.0 firmware for the current A1?
I think the high megapixel sensor in the A1 is entirely what is preventing it from going higher as far as frames per second. I don’t think we have the processor technology to process that data fast enough at least that’s my opinion anyhow. I really don’t see it going much higher than what it is to be honest.Really hoping SAR's latest source is incorrect that the A1II is staying at 30FPS. If that is true and the price increase is true then I may look towards an A9III instead. MPs be damned.
Sony A1II really seems like a relatively unspectacular update… – sonyalpharumors

But if we look at the A9III it is able to do 24MP at 120FPS and can do that in all the RAW formats. Unlike A1 that can only do 30FPS in the smallest (Lossy) Compressed RAW mode.I think the high megapixel sensor in the A1 is entirely what is preventing it from going higher as far as frames per second. Not sure it could do that without the global sensor which if I’m understanding correctly, is what gives it that ability. Also not sure the current cards could process files that large. I thought you said with the A9 you could barely get past a second before hitting the bufferBut if we look at the A9III it is able to do 24MP at 120FPS and can do that in all the RAW formats. A1 files are ~2x the size of A9III files. I don't see any reason the A1II couldn't do 60FPS. Even if that was limited to (Lossy) Compressed RAW I'm good with that. I've always had to shoot in Compressed as all my Sony cameras A9/A9II/A1 have needed Compressed to shoot the max FPS. A9III was the first to buck that trend.
The buffer is a second and a half or so shooting 120fps with .3 second precapture in lossless raw. Compressed raw I assume would extend that buffer a little bit and most jpeg file sizes are significantly longer. Not sure it could do that without the global sensor which if I’m understanding correctly, is what gives it that ability.
