Nikon knocked it out of the park with this 105 Z macro lens. :) I'm just starting to dabble with macro & I'm super pleased with the performance.
These are all handheld - I'll play with tripod & stacking on a non-windy days. :)
Hello everyone!
I am a Z6II Owner that enjoys shooting sports and wildlife and encountered a strange behavior on firmware v1.40 on my Z6II. While shooting with a 70-200 F2.8 Z lens on Continuous H (extended), I noticed that after a random period of time, the camera will be shooting at a much...
I have all of Steve's books (except the A1 one), watched all of his videos, and think he is one of the best, if not the best, at explaining how to get better wildlife images. Steve, however, has now expressed a preference for Sony gear (compared to the Z9 "the A1 is the best for my needs," "the...
Updated lineup with silhouettes of the 7 unannounced future lenses (from Nikon Europe)
note the timeline: "34 amazing lenses and 2 teleconverters that will be available by the end of 2023." emphasis added. Presumably, this means by April 2023
Updated Z Brochure - December 2021...
I bought a Lexar GB CF express B card. Going by the following table, it seemed the best performer relative to price. Its buffer/write capacity is the 3rd best on the list!
The results I got...
1) Lossless Raw only @ 20 FPS - 61 raw images - before buffer starts to slow down. But one can keep...
I thought we can make a database of how well the Z9 can track different animals/birds in different situations by collectively pooling in our first-hand experiences!
Not sure if anybody is interested, but I am doing it anyway! It could help other photographers & perhaps even Nikon if they ever...
Hi,
My first photo post here, I really appreciate Steve's work and this forum is a goldmine to watch some great wildlife shots taken all around the world, so thank you for sharing!
Here are a few pics of blue tits taken this month, as a gift in exchange of some sunflower seeds :)
My gear...
This is probably the best EVF AF recording of the Z9 that I have seen on the Internet.
The shooter uses different modes to track different birds.
At one point he tracks an erratic butterfly amidst a busy background with 3 D tracking. Going by the video, seems like 3D tracking is the best AF mode.
In the video, Jared states that he reached out to Nikon about the Af tracking in Z9 teaser 3 and that Nikon confirmed that the AF box on the athletes were digitally added in post but based on the EVF recording.
It seems factual to me as the AF boxes in Z9 teaser 3 were perfectly plastered to...
Hey everyone,
As most of us Nikon shooters especially wildlife shooters are not too happy with Z cameras, I feel we should list some of the specs/features we crave for so that we get a feel of what people want the most!
Here is mine. I will call it Z8.
1) 33 MP BSI full frame sensor...
I agree with image quality penalties of a DX sensor, at higher ISOs particularly.
Nevertheless, affordability of a FX compared to a DX camera is a big factor for many photographers.
However unlike DSLRs, mirrorless cameras require a stacked sensor to cope with high frame rates, minimize...
This year is the best I've seen in the past 20 years for the Porter's Sunflower in the Atlanta area. This small 1 1/2 inch yellow sunflower is found on exposed granite monadnocks - like Stone Mountain SP, Panola Mountain SP, and Arabia Mountain Heritage Area. I've visited Arabia Mountain twice...
Hey folks, I would like your take/experiences on using the Nikon 500 f4 G ED VR & 500pf lens.
I currently own the 500pf, & I have an opportunity to buy a used Nikon 500 f4 G ED VR. Wondering if I should go for it.
The MTF charts suggest that the 500 PF is sharper than Nikon 500 f4 G ED VR.
I...
Hi all,
I'm very much an amateur and love to capture my travels as best I can. It seems every trip I go on I discover a new gear or skill limitation! I started on a D3100 back in 2012 and moved up to a D7500 last year and I love it!
I'm still using the 55-200mm f4-5.6 G ED VR kit lens from the...
So I spent a week in Mallorca and used my D850 + 16-35 mm F4 (1.6 kg / 3.5 lb) to take landscape photos. It did a great job, but it was quite heavy for longer hikes and it drew too much attention in small cities (size wise). I considered switching to my 24 mm F1.8 but it wasn’t wide enough (225...
Hi guys,
I'm a first time poster to this forum but a long time follower of Steve's youtube channel and was wondering if anyone here could help me with the following problem:
The knob that loosens or tightens the lens collar on my 70-200 2.8 E FL nikkor lens is stuck. So if I want to use this...
Last week we went for a little break away and I got up early at a spot that looked like it would be good for birding and I was amazed at how many species I managed to spot there! The African stone chat is a beautiful little bird that I had on my list of birds I really want to photograph for the...
